While we should all seek to renew our minds and learn the truth through the God’s Holy Spirit and Scripture, we have to realize that we all are corrupted by sin and that includes our thinking process (our mind). THEREFORE you should never believe the teaching of any man outright without testing it first. When in doubt ask God for help, ask him to find the truth – ask him for the Holy Spirit to teach you – all of which he desires greatly to do.
Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:19,21-22: “Quench (extinguish) not the Spirit” and “Test all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
When you see one verse that you think teaches a specific idea, if it is true, the idea will also be confirmed in other verses in the Bible. Weigh the verses together: Who is the speaker, How many verses support the idea. What does God’s Holy Spirit tell you? Remember to review the surrounding verses so to not misunderstand or take it out of context. Never take one verse and build an entire doctrine around it without proper study. Ask questions and seek assistance from other disciples of Jesus (Y’shua) whom you trust. Always test against the foundation of the Bible (the Torah, 1st 5 books) – the Books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers). If it appears to contradict the Torah (the Books of Moses) then there is something wrong with the idea because Moses is God’s Chief Prophet (Exodus 19:9).
It benefits neither you, God, or anyone else if you do not know “why” you believe what you believe. You need to be able to stand on a firm foundation that God builds not stand on a foundation built by man. God’s People are a sharing and testimonial type and need to be able to share with others and respond to questions about their beliefs.
GOD or MAN: Although I draw mostly from direct Bible quotes, if you come to a conclusion that this teaching is correct without verifying it against the Bible and God’s Holy Spirit then you are believing in a man and not God. If you test and confirm these teachings, in Scripture and by the Holy Spirit, then you are believing in God.
